gaia shoulder hug

This shawl was the perfect summer knitting.  It was portable and required very little brain power on my part.  (Which is good for when you drop off to sleep while knitting poolside.)  It was designed with Noro sock yarn in mind and as the yarn color changes, you switch from stockinette to reverse stockinette with an eyelet transition row.
The entire shawl ends up being reversible which is fabulous.  I loved the name of it ~ Gaia Shoulder Hug.  The thought of being able to give it as a hug sold me right away.  (although it's a free pattern)
Maggie modeled it and I noticed a glimmer in her eye...she didn't want to give it back.  It's a good thing for me that I have another skein of yarn ready to go!
Here's the knitty gritty:
Pattern: Gaia Shoulder Hug (ravelry link) by Anne Carroll Gilmour
Needles: size 6 (I went up a size from the pattern...only because I didn't have a 5!)
Yarn: Noro Kureyon Sock #221. I used 1 skein...and only had about 12 inches left!  I cut it a little close.  I wanted to get one more color transition completed.  whew!
(thanks to Maggie for modeling for me!)

love it! the pattern looks simple and complex at the same time (does that make sense?). I loved using noro. the anticipation of colors keeps those stitches coming!! and she is just the best model.

Oh, this is really beautiful. Love the yarn! I am a new knitter and just today went to a specialty yarn store with knitting friends. Oh my, was I ever overwhelmed. I would love to make something like this shoulder hug. It looks perfect for Texas winters.

Great pattern, great knitting and lovely model. All around perfect. I'm trying to think if I know someone who might need that for a Christmas present. Looks like it would be fun to knit.

It's so, so beautiful. I can see why that daughter of yours doesn't want to give it up. Another Lisa masterpiece.

WOW... I love this shawl, Lisa! That pattern & yarn are just perfect in this project. I think I have to add this pattern to my list too. I will have to be careful, it seems everyone wants the shawl once seen or tried on! ;o) BEAUTIFUL! Happy Days ((HUGS))

This shoulder hug makes me consider trying to knit again! I have never been very keen as it seems to take ages to grow! and then all those stitches to lose!
That is why I can crochet and only need one stitch to worry about! Your shoulder hug is simply gorgeous!
Enjoy your days,

Just beautiful, Lisa. Shawl knitting has become a new obsession. I have another in the works for myself and I would LOVE to knit one for my mother-in-law for Christmas using some leftover sock yarn. That is really a pretty pattern you used.
