lukewarm

I finished my high neck vest. I started this in the beginning of February and ran out of yarn. The yarn that I ran short on finally came in this past weekend. (only a month's wait!) Lesson learned: buy one extra skein just in case! After all the excitement of finally finishing it, I have mixed feelings about this hand knit. I'm not so sure I like it. Perhaps it's the fact that I was making it in the dead of winter and now that I've finished, it's spring. I will wait and see how I feel about it next fall when the seasons change and I'm thinking chunky knits instead of skinny cottons. In addition to waiting, I might need to secure the button hole at my waist though, it is pulling and gaping. I might also need to add another snap to anchor the front bands. I'm happy with my knitting, the yarn and the color. I'm just not so sure I like the finished garment. My vest turned out a bit longer than the one pictured in the magazine. I got gauge horizontally, just not sure I got gauge vertically. (Actually I'm pretty sure I didn't or else something else happened to make my vest so much longer :)) Oh well, it's done and time will tell how I feel about it.

Pattern: High Neck Vest, from Knit Simple Magazine Winter 2009
Needles: circulars Size 10 ½ & 11

Classic Chunky in color 60619, 6 skeins plus a tiny bit of a 7th skein.

i love the overall look of this outfit!!
it looks like the vest might be really cute left open. what do you think?
and yes, i always, always order an extra skein. if i don't use it in the project, i save it as a reminder skein for my future "wall of yarn". ;)

I love the color! (I actually just sewed myself a shirt with a base color of almost the exact same red, but it's a springy shirt.) And longer styles are "in", so you're in luck. ; )

I think it looks good. Somehow the pattern accentuates a waist. Was there short row shaping? I actually like longer sweaters myself.

with time, most all things appear and feel different. but you do not need to look to the future to take heart in, and stock of, the talent that God has so obviously gifted to you.

Lisa, i think it looks great on you. the waist shaping is very flattering and the color is perfect! you may want to try it un-buttoned and see if you like that better. My advice: wear it out and enjoy all the compliments you will be sure to receive!

beautiful!! I like your pairing it with your white blouse for a dressy look and t for a casual look. I like the length and especially the color. I think you'll love it when you can wear it over and over. your talent abounds.

I think it looks really good on you. When you get a chance to wear it a couple of times, you'll know better if you like it or not.

I think it looks great. I love the color and the texture of the pattern. I know what you mean, however...if I am not in love with a finished project, it will just sit on the shelf. I bet come next fall you will feel differently and get plenty of use out of your beautiful vest!

I love the red! I'm sure it will come in wonderfully handy as a wardrobe staple in the fall!
I hear ya with the skinny cotton spring knits on the mind... but with the way this spring is starting, there may be plenty of chunky knit wearing opportunities in the next few weeks after all...

Happy knitting-
ali
