stash building

Dishcloths...I love to knit them.  I've gotten into trouble before with my wrists from not knowing when to stop.  I like to keep a stash of them in my 'gift drawer' for when I need a gift for a special friend.  My stash has been running low and so this summer I've been trying to replenish it (in moderation).  Here are a couple of my favorite dishcloth patterns:

~this is the "granny dishcloth"...my dad requested these for Christmas last year.  He does the dishes at my folks' house and this is his dishcloth of choice!  Gotta love that!  This is the easiest dishcloth in the world to knit.  (follow the link above to see a full shot of the granny dishcloth)

~this is the "waffle knit dishcloth"...it's easy too and it's a fun one to add stripes to.  I love to make two of these that match and give them as a set.  I only have one of these done, but the next one will be the opposite of this one.  It'll be cream with a tweedy red stripe.

~this next one is fun when you want a bit more of a challenge but aren't wanting to tackle a big project. Dishcloths are great for (almost) instant gratification.  This one also knits up the biggest of all of the ones I show here.  It's called "spring is in the air"...but you can knit it anytime.

~this "feather and fan dishcloth" pattern is my favorite.  I especially like it knit up in the variegated yarns...the color patterns are really cool.  This one actually got finished and was immediately employed in our kitchen....before I got a finished picture.

~I just knit two of these "double bump" dishcloths and I have to say, they are fun to knit...very easy and the pattern is quick to memorize.  I picked these colors out because they reminded me of summer fresh tomatoes...yummy!
I have enough dishcloth yarn to make some more....the only trouble will be deciding which pattern to work on next.  How about you, do you have a favorite dishcloth pattern?

What a great idea. I guess this would eliminate sponges, is that correct? Am going to hunt down some cotton yarn to start asap. Thanks for posting and sharing.

You are on to something. Matching dishcloths and ruffled kitchen towels. That might be a nice shower gift too. I wish we could have more hours in a day.

I learned to knit making Granny dishcloths but my favorite is the Double Bump. I lost the pattern and couldn't remember the name of it so thank you, thank you for posting the link to the pattern!

It's been a while since I knit dishcloths, but last year, I had built up my stash with the Waffles and Grannys :) I have always used Peaches & Creme (or whatever it is by Pisgah) on US6 for a bit tighter gauger, but I am strange one who isn't as keen on using such fatty yarn whilst washing dishes. All my of handknit cloths have gone to the bathroom, which seems to work better for that. I am wondering if a DK cotton would be better suited to my pickiness! Have you ever used a thinner yarn for kitchen cloths? Either way, I love the Waffle and the Granny, and that last one, the one that I can't recall the name of because I have pregnancy brain? I wanna do that one!!
It's been a looooong time since I commented here, but I keep up with your craftiness via that rss feed thusandsuch!

Oh, so pretty, all of them, Lisa! I have had me some dish cloth-knitting marathons that lend to tendonitis flair ups too, so I can relate! The feather and fan is my favorite version for the cloth. I've not knitted a cloth in awhile... After seeing these I may succumb TO A bout...LOL...;o) Happy Days ((HUGS))

Great patterns. Thanks for all the links...I have a small basket with bits of cotton and needles at the ready for dishcloth knitting but I just do garter stitch squares like my grandmother did :) I think its time to branch out and check out those patterns up above!

The granny pattern is my favorite cloth to use on my counters...just something about how they feel. However, I can never make the corners look good. :P I've made a lot of the waffle knit, too. I think it is pretty. A friend gave me the idea of making my cloths smaller so I make them about the size of my hand now, which I really like. I'm going to take a look at these other patterns you've linked. I'm in the mood for knitting!

Feather and Fan is my ultimate favorite. I can't remember the last time I knit a dish cloth with something else. :) Have fun building your stash.
