ready

Baby hats are not nearly as fun to photograph as babies in hats. But I have no baby to model this baby hat. I don't even know of any little babies to borrow. Thus the empty hat. Soon however there will be a baby. not mine. A friend at church is pregnant with her first. They are telling her that she is having a boy. She and her husband have already picked out a darling name. Samuel. (I am partial to the name, Samuel.) Anyways, there's a shower for her in a week or so and I am ready. I knit the Simple Baby Hat from Itty Bitty Hats by Susan B. Anderson. It was a quick knit and a lot of fun. I modified the top in order to do the knot. I'm really happy with how it turned out. The other part of my gift is this book. It's a great one for any parent to have. I use my copy everyday.

The nitty gritty:
Needles: size 7
Yarn: Tahki Cotton Classic in lime, baby boy blue and white
(I just used some from my stash...it really didn't take much at all)
Mods: I added stripes as I knit to add some variety. When I got down to the last 9 stitiches in my decreases, instead of pulling the yarn through, I kept knitting for about 3 1/2 inches. I then pulled my yarn through the stitches and secured it. Finally, I tied the knot. It kinda reminds me of an outie belly button.
Oh, and just in case Samuel turns out to be Sami I've got a back up! You can check out the specifics on my Ravelry page.
