it only took 10 years

I think it's been ten years that I've had the same kitchen curtain up over my sink....but I'm not exactly sure.  When we first moved into this house, my kitchen was Americana....red, white and blue with lots of flags and punched tin.  nice eh?  When I was pregnant with John Samuel we began the process of knocking out a wall and making our kitchen and dining room into one room.  I remember feeding him with the sounds of construction going on and that's how I know that it's been about 10 years.
We torn down the wallpaper and I put away the flags and the punched tin and made a curtain to go over the sink (above).  I've always liked the fabric and never felt the urge to change it, until this past week.  On Monday I had some time to kill while the girls were at basketball practice and I was alone (unbelievable!)  So, I went to Joann's and milled around for a while.  I came out with fabric and the idea to redo that curtain.  Tada!  Wild I know!
Here's a close up of the fabric.  It's a ticking stripe in browns, blue and greens.  Very classic...
I'm laughing because even though it's not a big change...(I didn't choose the rooster fabric or the Hawaiian print that I pushed around in my cart for a while as I was deciding),  I'm not sure my husband has even realized that there's a new curtain up.   Guess he needs to spend more time at the sink, right!?
Good thing this is what my sink looks like most of the time....

It is funny how we don't think to change some things. We look at them day after day and before we know it it's been ten years. Love the new curtain. Looks great. My sink looks like yours most of the time.

I agree it's funny how some things we look at every day for years and others we change frequently. Love the stripes!

Love the new curtain--and I think you got a picture of my kitchen sink there! Love the new blog header, too--so springy!

Ha! :) Sometimes it takes my husband awhile to notice things I change around. I get impatient and point things out, and say, "Please put your glasses on so you can see the details!" Once he does notice, he will say, "That is so nice!" :)

I love the fabric you chose. A very nice improvement!

Happy weekend to you!

I often have the experience of finally doing something that I've been intending to do for ages, and marvelling at how little time it actually took! All in good time, though.

What an amazing view you have from your kitchen window!

It's the little things that mean a lot! A ticking stripe is so nice in a kitchen... Although, I have to say the Hawaiian floral does appeal... It's still winter here, so anything tropical sounds good. ;o) But love the new look, Lisa--it brights up the space! We had a dull, purchased curtain up for ages in the kitchen and I made new one last summer--what a difference! Happy weekend ((HUGS))

We live on the farm, so privacy isn't so much an issue. We have lived in this house since 1986, and I still have no Master bedroom curtains--because I didn't know what I wanted. The LR and K/DR have had curtains in blue/white country theme, and that's gone now. I know exactly what I want--lovely burnt orange semi-sheers from our city house, but not enough fabric for the LR. Must find something similar. Maybe you've given me the nudge--right after greenhouse season.

I love your new curtain. It looks springy. I'll post on my blog the improvement I made after 32 yrs of living here! It's the little things that mean the most.

I am so enamored with your view I do not think I would notice the curtain change. You have some great trees to feast your eyes upon!!!!

Sometimes it's the smallest changes that we put in motion that bring a pound of joy. Have fun getting used to a new curtain. :)

Not a big change... a just right change. I love your fabric choice! Good luck on getting your husband to get personal with those new curtains... or the sink. :)

Blessings, Debbie

Funny. Sometimes even subtle changes can make a difference - even if no one else notices but you.

Great job! I just did this over the weekend in my own kitchen. It is funny how some things go unnoticed for so long. I still can't remember what happened to the old window treatment or when it was even taken down, but I am blown away at how something as simple as a curtain can change the whole ambience of the room.
