simple pleasures

It's been nice to have some things lighten up in our schedule lately and I've found myself with some time to:

*enjoy my neighbor's hellebores.  The common name for these beauties is Lenten Rose.(today is Ash Wednesday....how appropriate!)

*put away packaging from Christmas...this has been sitting by our bedroom door just waiting to go downstairs.  I've walked by it every day for weeks  months and for whatever reason, I finally got it put away!  go figure!?  (does anyone else saving packaging from electronics, just in case?)

*pick up a long lost (started years ago) cross stitch sampler.  This is Harbison Chapel from my Alma Mater - Grove City College.  After all these years, I still really like it and would love to finish it.  Maybe this is the year!

*put away the snowmen....we've barely had a trace of snow here all winter.  I'm done with the snowmen taunting me.  (now it will snow, right?!)

*use my coffee beans in a new way.  With all my snowmen put away I was needing something to fill in a spot, but it's way too early for bunnies and daffodils, so coffee seemed like a good move!

*start on a hat.  You've got to wonder why I'd start a winter hat with a forecast that includes temps in the high 60's but I had the yarn and the pattern...and I got an itch to start a new knitting project.  The perfect storm...yarn, pattern, desire, time!
So, that's what's going on around here... a bit of this and a bit of that.  Hope you're finding time for some simple pleasures as well!

We are suppose to get two more snow storms this week, so I have a hat on the needles too! :) I am going to steal...I mean "incorporate" your coffee beans with a candle idea....because I also just put away the hearts and really don't want to bring out the bunnies yet either. :) I have a few small cookie cutters that I think I will nestle in with the beans. :)

I'm in western West Virginia. There has been one day with a bit of snow on the ground. It's a crazy Winter for certain. I've still got my snowmen displayed although I do think it's fruitless. ha

The cross stitch sampler is pretty. I've got a sampler that's been on my lap easle for a least a year.

I really like the yarn you show for the hat. Would you pass along the brand and colorway, please?

Wishing you a great day.

It was almost 80 here yesterday and my allergies kicked in. I am going to use your coffee bean idea, too. I just bought a candle holder thing and coffee beans are just the right color for what I needed and much nicer than pebbles which are the only idea that had crossed my mind thus far. Coffee beans are much less aquarian than the pebbles. =D

Looks like fun at your house My lenten rose is blooming too. It's such a pretty plant. Your hat will be ready for next winter.

If you knit quickly you may still be able to wear a new hat this year. I'm not convinced winter is over. We're to get 2-5" of snow tonight/tomorrow. I've had the cross-stitching buy here as well. Actually pulled the supplies to make this for you for Christmas!!!! Guess that's out! So thankful for all the wonderful memories that coming rushing back when GCC is mentioned. xoxo

I've been enjoying your blog for awhile...little did I know we shared a similar school. I'm an alumni of GCC too! :)

Love the idea with the coffee beans for the candle, and the cross stitch project looks beautiful already.

Yes, WE do keep boxes for quite a long time for those electronics. We have had to return a few due to them not working. Having the original packaging comes in handy.

Your candle cover in your last post does look very cozy!

Blessings to you for a happy day!

xoxo...Gloria

Hi, Lisa! Love this simple pleasures focus... And that's what I've been doing too, as I've had a touch of the winter blues here, so it's the little things that do mean a lot. LOVE your coffee beans idea--very fun, and fragrant too, I imagine! Lovely your return to cross stitch. I used to do a lot of that years ago--should revisit sometime. Love the cross stitch featured in your banner too. Beautiful yarn on new project you're starting. I just found out a friend has cancer, so knitting her a shawl for her upcoming chemo treats...*sigh*...It is the little things! Happy Days ((HUGS))

The simple pleasures really are the best. Your cross-stitch project looks so inviting, I might start one of my own!

Here in Aberdeen I'm enjoying the fact that it's light at 7 am and 5 pm (!such a rush!), healthy food, jigsaw puzzles, the fire, knitting, good friends and neighbours. So much to be thankful for.

Oh and the crocuses that were absolutely singing in the sunshine today.

Just wanted to stop by and let you that you have been on my mind a lot lately. I've had to stay off the computer because my life became quite hectic so all free time had to go to my family. I have missed your thoughtful words.

I, too, have been focusing on simple pleasures - and enjoying all the warm weather. Love the yarn you chose for the hat. A hat is the perfect end of winter knit - quick and satisfying.

Coffee under the candle seems like the perfect crossover from snowmen to daffodils! And the yarn is lovely. Why not a hat? :)

Blessings, Debbie

It is nice to meet another sampler stitcher. I like the evergreens of your sampler. I'm stitching one I started years ago. It is so pink that I needed a break from it and have returned to it with new interest - adding white rabbits (from another chart). It will not be finished and framed in time for Easter. Never Mind.
