reminiscing

When I was growing up we went to the beach every summer. This photo was taken in 1975. That's my family. Don't you just love the zinc on my dad's nose? We always headed to the beach for a week and we hung out by the water all day. Sometimes we would come back to our place for lunch, but some days we would get burgers and fries from the boardwalk and eat on the beach. (Everything tastes great when you're eating it on the beach.) The mark of a good vacation was how dark your tan was when you got home. I've grown wiser now, and I make sure we use an spf of 50, but I'm still a beach bum. My vacation of choice is the beach. I'm actually in between beach trips and I've been reminiscing about my past beach memories. All this reminiscing is because my mom was cleaning out her basement. She found this old diving mask that my brother and I used to use when we would go swimming. She thought my kids would want to use it. (They cracked up at the thought!) Can you see the elastic that she used to repair it when it broke? I wasn't sure what to do with it, but I knew it was too special to throw it away. I had it sitting on a shelf with some shells and then the idea hit me to turn it into a picture frame. I searched my box of photos from when I was a little girl and I found the perfect one! This is my brother and me in 1979, I was 11 and he was 9. I am obviously freezing in that pool water. I'm tickled with my new photo frame and I'm so thankful for the memories my parents gave me as I was growing up. I'll be heading back to the beach sometime next week....with my spf 50.

i can so relate to going to the beach often to tan - in 1975. At the time we lived in Los Angeles, just 30 minutes from the beach and we went often - we spent many weekends filling buckets with wet sand and sand crabs! I love how you used the diving mask to frame a photo in which your brother is actually wearing the mask - so good! Your kids must love seeing photos of mom as a kid. Have fun on beach vacation #2 - we'll be heading to the beach for several days next week too...with our spf 50.

What a neat way to use the photo pf you and your brother! I remember zinc oxide well, my mother always had it on my nose and under my eyes. The beach is where we always took our vacations as well, and so many of my best memories are tied up in the shores that we visited. Thanks for sharing your wonderful memories.

What a great idea. I like the beach, too and sure could use a week on the beach. Renting a little beach shack and just hanging out would be great.

Right now I have to finish painting my daughter's room-no beach trips yet.

My dad loves the beach and we used to go almost every weekend.

What a great post this was! I loved seeing your old pictures and how creative you are to come up with such a fun way to keep a memory alive. Oh yes, I remember the days of judging the vacation by the tan. I'm like you, I still love beach vacations. Luckily we have relatives near the beach and go about once a year.

That's an awesome idea - I love the "new" photo frame!!! (and the picture - too cute!) =0)

Wish we could have seen you guys this past weekend. Isaiah didn't exactly make it to MD - we got as far as Knoxville and had to turn around. =0( I guess flying will be a better option next time. We at least got to stay in Chattanooga a little longer . . . and we rode a train, which was too perfect for Isaiah (air conditioned and everything). =0)

Thanks for an awesome idea! =0)

Blessings & Love,
